International Day of Light celebrated by USTM

Capacity Building Workshop on Distance Learning

A workshop on “Solar Astrophysics: A quality approach to Solar Research” and a quiz competition have been held here today as part of the celebration of the International Day of Light-2023. The event was organized by the Department of Physics, University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM).

Dr Nitu Borgohain, HoD of the Physics department made an introductory speech on the Sun and its importance for a sustainable future. He discussed about the various solar phenomena and relevant astrophysical processes and pointed out that “A comprehensive study of a star could be far more interesting than what we think”. He concluded the workshop with a brief demonstration and hands-on training on the Hydrogen spectrum experiment. Earlier, the welcome speech was delivered by Dr Murchana Khusroo.

A quiz competition was also held on the occasion of the International Day of Light. It was moderated by Dr. Ritun Chakraborty. Students from the Physics and Chemistry departments participated in the competition. The winners and the participating students were awarded attractive prizes. Students were amazed at the hands-on activities of the workshop and enjoyed the quiz competition.

 

As we go round the tables, the learning outcomes and course designs just keep getting better and better. Participants are clearly learning from the feedback they are hearing.

The excitement is intense and finally explodes into triumphant dancing, hollering and air punching as the winners are announced. Ending the workshop with Innumerable photos with participants and wonderful feedback such as “I’m leaving this workshop a changed man” and “When can we have more workshops like this? No more requests for lectures.

USTM holds Health Camp at Old Age Home

9th Mile, Khanapara, Ri Bhoi, May 19, 2023 A day-long outreach programme on “Enhancing Wellbeing: Charitable Support and Health Assessments for Senior Residents” was conducted
